Authority files of locations

histHub authority files of locations represent a defined minimal set of information and allows to identify and distinguish locations.

In histHub, “objects” are objects that have a concrete projection on the surface of the earth and a name. Locations can therefore be roughly divided into three categories:

  • Natural places
  • built places
  • conceptual places

(cf. location typology histHub-geotype)

A histHub authority file of a place consists of at least one place name, a place type, a location, and the time of existence of the place. All information may be dated. Each authority file can also be uniquely identified by a persistent identifier (histHub-ID) and can be persistently linked via permalink.
